Driver – Term of Office (Governor) Appointment

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Driver full time (40 hours per week covering 7 days per week) at Government House Perth. The position requires an individual with a mature and discrete approach to work in an environment driven by protocol and the highest standards of hospitality and domestic service. The position will require the applicant to be very flexible to accommodate the Vice Regal program and other requests.

The position will also assist with other operational duties as required.

Key responsibilities of the position

  • Carry out all driving duties in a safe and timely manner on behalf of the Governor’s Establishment as required.
  • Maintain and present the Government House vehicles to the highest standard of presentation and operating performance.
  • Carry out reconnaissance of venues, liaise with event organisers and provide supporting information in ‘advance’ of the brief preparation.
  • Assist with operational duties as and when required by the Senior Ranger.

Responsibilities

  • Drive the Governor (and/or Spouse) to official duties in a timely manner on both formal and informal occasions.
  • Ensure that official vehicles and the Governor’s personal vehicle are maintained, serviced, cleaned and garages maintained to a very high standard at all times. Take full responsibility for the Governor’s official vehicle at all times.
  • Carry out reconnaissance of venues, liaise with event organisers and provide supporting information in ‘advance’ of the brief preparation.
  • Assist with Operational duties as and when required.
  • Other duties as directed.

Selection criteria   

Essential 

  • ‘C’ class motor vehicle driver’s licence for a minimum of 5 years with a clean driving record.
  • Working knowledge of protocol and driving procedures associated with the Governor’s role
  • High level of verbal communication skills including the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Desirable

  • Sound knowledge of the location of significant landmarks and state government offices within the metropolitan area.
  • Experience in the basic care and maintenance of a motor vehicle.
  • Successful completion of a First Aid Course (and maintain a current First Aid certificate).
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience driving dignitaries.

Special requirements of the position

  • High standards of dress, personal grooming and behaviour is a requirement of the incumbent at all times while working in this position.
  • Public relations skills.
