Historical records of this room in the period before 1880 indicate a very sombre Victorian style of decoration with heavy drapes, flock patterned wallpapers, Persian rugs and an abundance of chairs, tables and whatnots.

The present decorative theme is based on the style used by Grainger in the 1890’s when lighter wall colours were introduced and extra decorative features were used on the frieze and at dado height.

The ribbed and panelled ceiling was sent from England by Crace and other original details include the two fine marble fireplaces and the tall wall mirrors in gilt frames.

The Drawing Room is used for most official entertaining including important visitors, diplomatic callers and small receptions. There is an excellent view across the gardens to the rose parterre and down to the main lawn.
