Invitations for Her Excellency the Governor to attend functions must always be in writing, signed by the most senior member of the organisation, and should be addressed to the Official Secretary. In the interest of efficiency, organisations are encouraged to submit formal invitations as an attachment to This email address is being protected from spambots. All invitations to the Governor must be accompanied by a completed invitation form.
To ensure adequate preparation time, invitations should not arrive less than two months from the proposed date. The invitation should contain as much detail about the event as possible in order to be considered for inclusion in the Vice Regal program.
Invitations should include:
·       Date and time of the function
·       Venue
·       General outline of the function
·       Outline of the Governor’s role (i.e. official duties)
·       Expected number of guests
·       Speech requirements, including suggested topics:
The overall aim is to enable the Governor to be as well informed as possible for your organisation’s function, and to prepare a speech which is suitable for the occasion and meets the expectations of your guests.
The Governor prefers to speak first at an event.  Unless it has been agreed at the time of accepting an invitation, the Governor will not speak at a function.  If there are to be other speakers, it is important that Government House is advised of the subject matter to avoid replication.
You may also provide an overview of your organisation (only if the Governor is not your Patron).
Please note that, as a rule, the Governor does not attend general meetings.
Invitations should be addressed to:
