by His Excellency Dr Ken Michael AC Governor of Western Australia I am delighted to be here this morning for this very important and prestigious award presentation.
Crime Stoppers WA epitomises the partnership approach to policing a partnership between the community and its police force.
This is an important aspect of the remarkable success that Crime Stoppers here has played in the detection of crime in Western Australia. Each of us as community members has a role to play in helping to make our society a safer place to live and work, and working with the police through Crime Stoppers in this way means more success in that pursuit.
Indeed, Crime Stoppers provides the community with an opportunity to play an integral part in helping police to detect and arrest criminals through the use of its hotline for reporting and providing information that may lead to crime detection. As your Chairman, Roy Caldwell, has already pointed out, Crime Stoppers has an amazing record of success not just here in our own State but throughout the world. However, I understand that the success of the organisation here has placed it as a benchmark program throughout Australia in terms of its performance across the whole range of its operations.
This is a commendable achievement by everybody involved with Crime Stoppers in Western Australia.
Crime Stoppers is a true team effort and team members include the community, corporate sector, police, and the media all working together with one goal to fight crime in Western Australia.
I would like to offer my congratulations to the Crime Stoppers Western Australia media partners on being awarded these prestigious international awards they add to the already impressive list of awards in the past 10 years. The media partners were recognised at the 2008 Crime Stoppers conference in Iowa in the United States in August where the awards were announced. The awards recognised the media partners' articles and stories or announcements that have promoted Crime Stoppers Western Australia or cases in which Crime Stoppers has been involved.
I would emphasise that without the involvement of the media partners, Crime Stoppers task of generating community assistance would be extremely difficult, so I thank the partners for their important support.
As well, congratulations to all those people involved in the organisation your efforts and hard work make Crime Stoppers Western Australia the great success that it is. In particular, todays ceremony gives us all the opportunity to reflect on its achievements, to recognise the contribution made by all those who take part and to celebrate this success. I am delighted, as your Patron, to now present these Crime Stoppers International Media and Productivity Awards to the Crime Stoppers Western Australia media partners who have been so recognised and to wish you all continued success in your important endeavours in helping to fight crime in our State.
Congratulations and well done to you all.
